Public engagement with research and health concepts is a tool for enhancing impact, which is critical to realizing our vision. We are exploring the nexus between the right to food, as stipulated in the Bill of Rights in the Constitution of Kenya, and the lived experiences of the urban poor populations in Kenya. The hope is that the public engagement will enhance communities’ understanding of the concept of their right to food and provide opportunities to explore potential strategies to ensure the Right to Food for all Kenyans.

Dr. Elizabeth Kimani-Murage was awarded an International Engagement Fellowship from the Wellcome Trust to engage those in urban poor settings in Kenya on their constitutional right to food. The aim of public engagement is to help people connect with science and health concepts in ways accessible and relevant to them, and to create a culture of public-informed research for greater public trust and acceptance.
