Nowhere is this failure more pr<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">onounced than in Africa, with u<\/span>rban poor populations a<span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">nd dryland communities being more v<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">ulnerable to this crisis.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">The <\/span><b style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Zero Hunger Initiative<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">, an initiative the <\/span><a style=\"font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/aphrc.org\/\">African Population and Health Research Center<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> (APHRC), seeks to contribute to address this urgent challenge. Grounded in the principles of the <\/span><b style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> and the <\/span><b style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ICESCR)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">\u2014endorsed by Kenya and numerous African nations\u2014the initiative champions the right to food as a fundamental human right.
